Viktor Gyökeres has been advised to make Arsenal his next destination by his former mentor and Swedish football legend Anders Limpar. The Sporting Lisbon striker, who has been in scintillating form, further boosted his growing reputation with a four-goal performance for Sweden on Tuesday night, taking his season tally to an impressive 32 goals for club and country.
With Sporting manager Ruben Amorim recently taking over at Manchester United, Gyökeres has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. However, Limpar, who spent three years at Arsenal and earned 58 caps for Sweden, believes the Premier League rivals would be the ideal fit for the dynamic forward.
“I know Gyökeres very well personally,” Limpar revealed to *FotbollDirekt*. “I was a bit of a mentor for him when he played for Brommapojkarna, along with Ludwig Augustinsson. We’ve talked a lot about professional life, and he’s a fantastically hardworking forward who scores a lot of goals.”
Limpar spoke glowingly about Gyökeres’ unmatched work ethic, describing the qualities that set him apart from other top forwards. “His work rate, he runs like a madman. When it doesn’t work out for Viktor, he works his way into the game with uncomfortable runs. While other forwards save their energy when things aren’t going well, Viktor never stops. That’s why he’s been so successful.”
The Swedish star’s potential arrival at Arsenal would, according to Limpar, mark a dream scenario. “If we at Arsenal [were to] buy Gyökeres, then he will definitely call me. To see Gyökeres at Arsenal, that would be crazy. His style of play and determination would suit the Premier League perfectly.”
Gyökeres is no stranger to English football, having spent time in the Championship with Coventry City, where he impressed with his physicality and knack for finding the net. Limpar is confident the striker can transition seamlessly to the Premier League, especially after his standout performances for Sporting in Portugal.
“We have to remember that the Portuguese league is inferior to the Premier League,” Limpar admitted. “But when Manchester City came to visit Lisbon, he scored a hat-trick, so he’s fully capable of scoring in England. He knows the English mentality from his time at Coventry and has already proven himself at that level. His next step should be the Premier League, and he can really choose which team he wants to play for.”
With Arsenal continually on the lookout for reinforcements to strengthen their attack, Gyökeres’ work ethic, versatility, and proven goal-scoring ability could make him a perfect addition. Whether the Gunners heed Limpar’s call remains to be seen, but the prospect of the Swedish star donning Arsenal red is an exciting one for fans and pundits alike.
